How to Improve Your Website's Google Ranking

Monday, August 11, 2014 / 2 Comments

Google's search engine uses a variety of methods to determine which pages are displayed first in the results. Their exact formula is a secret, but there are always a few things you can do to improve your positioning. The term for this isSearch Engine Optimization (SEO).
These tips may not make your website the first one to appear in the list, but they just may help you move up a little. No matter what you do, make sure you make a site that you want to visit and written the way humans would want to read it. If you're gaming the system, sooner or later Google will figure it out and change their formula. You'll end up plummeting in the search results and wonder why.
Ignore spam and websites that offer to submit your website to hundreds of search engines. At best these are wastes of time or money and at worst they can actuallyhurt your ranking.

Keyword Phrases

A keyword phrase is, generally speaking, the words you think someone is most likely to put into a search engine to find your content. They should appear in your content. Don't overdo it. If it looks spammy, it probably is. Again, the point here is to speak like a human and just use the words that humans are most likely to use when searching for a page about your topic. If you use obscure words, define them. Otherwise, just use natural language.
If you were searching for your own website, what keyword phrase would you type into Google for each page? Would you look for super fast widgets?Would you look for cooking with widgets? It may be helpful to get a different perspective. Ask someone else to read your page and suggest what they think your keyword phrase might be. You can also check Google Trends to see if one phrase is starting to gain popularity.
Try to stick to one subject per page, and stick to one keyword phrase per page. That doesn't mean you should write stilted text or use odd phrases. Clear writing is both easier to search and easier to read. Don't be afraid to be really long and detailed with that subject. Think Wikipedia.

Density

One of the things Google looks for when it catalogs pages is the density of the keyword usage. In other words, how often the keyword occurs. Use natural phrasing. Don't try to trick the search engine by repeating the same word over and over or making text "invisible." It doesn't work. In fact, some of that behavior even get your website banned.

Give a strong opening paragraph that says what your page is actually about. This is just good practice, but it may help search engines find your page, too.

Name Your Pages

Give your pages a descriptive name with the <title> attribute. This is vital. Google often displays search results as a link using the Web page's title. A link called 'untitled' isn't enticing, and nobody is going to click on it. When appropriate, use the page's keyword phrase in the title.

Links

One of the biggest factors Google looks at is the hyperlink. Google looks at both links to and from your website.
Google looks at the words you use in links to help determine the content of your page. Use links within web pages as a way to emphasize keywords. Rather than saying, "click here to learn more about SEO" you should say: Read more aboutSEO (Search Engine Optimization).
Links from other websites to your website are used to determine PageRank.
You can improve your PageRank by exchanging text links with other relevant websites. Banner exchanges are not effective, and pages that want to charge you for this service are often known spammers that can hurt your rank.
Links are another area where you shouldn't overdo it. A page that is nothing but a list of links is spam.

Social Networking

Social networking sites can be a good way to promote a site, but it is unclear how much it will affect your rank directly. Google+ promotion may have the most impact. That said, you may find that a great deal of your traffic comes from social networks, so be sure to make your content social friendly. Add images and give your content interesting titles.

Make Your Graphics Search Friendly

Give your images <alt> attributes. Not only does it make your website more accessible to the visually impaired, it also gives you another chance to place your keywords where Google can see them. Just don't stuff keywords that don't belong.

Good Design Is Popular Design

In the end, strong, well organized pages are pages that Google tends to rank higher. They're also pages that tend to become more popular, which means Google will rank them even higher. Keep good design in mind as you go, and much of the SEO will design itself.

How to Start and Maintain a Successful YouTube Career

Friday, August 8, 2014 / No Comments

There are many possible ways to gain video views, subscribers, friends, and maybe, if you're lucky and talented enough––the fame. Consider some of the suggestions outlined here, to see which ones apply to your situation
Method 1 of 5: Forming your initial account

Start and Maintain a Successful YouTube Career Step 1.jpg
1

Make an account. Simply go to http://www.youtube.com and click the "create account" tab.
  1. Start and Maintain a Successful YouTube Career Step 2.jpg
    2
Choose a name people will remember. When choosing a Username you want it to be catchy, easy to read, and have the Username somehow relate to your personality or a main category that you plan on discussing on YouTube. After brainstorming for a while, carefully choose a Username.
  2. Method 2 of 5: Making successful videos

  1. Start and Maintain a Successful YouTube Career Step 3.jpg
    1
Make your first video. Choose a subject to talk about, particularly a subject that you know well or have a strong opinion about. You may want your first video to be an introduction to your channel and give people a taste of what you have to offer them.
    • For example: Tell your viewers about future topics, dates on which your next videos will come out, and the bottom line is make them want more of you.
  2. Start and Maintain a Successful YouTube Career Step 4.jpg
    2
Plan ahead with plenty of buffer space. Future dates and ideas means having a plan in place at least several months ahead. Draw one up and follow it fairly closely, with a bit of flexibility to meet viewers' requests, etc. Keep buffer space for the times when you're going to be too busy, too budget-crunched or even unwell or dealing with personal issues to be making a video.
    • Quality over quantity is often the best aim.
  3. Start and Maintain a Successful YouTube Career Step 5.jpg
    3
Come up with a variety of ideas. If you cannot think of something to talk about or do, watch other videos and gather ideas. After watching some videos you may be inspired to make a video response or even a spoof of their original video.
    • Don't copy other people's ideas. Parody is usually okay, as it is a common form of artistic expression that is not considered copying. But pretending another person's video script is also yours, for example, is copying.
  4. Start and Maintain a Successful YouTube Career Step 6.jpg
    4
Create videos that have some relevance to recent news. Make video responses to well known or popular videos.
  5. Start and Maintain a Successful YouTube Career Step 7.jpg
    5
Focus on the cute. Kittens, puppies, babies, laughing babies, children doing hilarious things, smiling, hugging, etc. are the sorts of things human beings are suckers for. Somehow, there is always room for more! Find the sorts of things your viewers like by way of cuteness, and keep delivering.
  6. Start and Maintain a Successful YouTube Career Step 8.jpg
    6
Keep it simple. Once you've cottoned onto an idea that works for you, don't embellish it or deviate from it too much. People like a certain style and brand when they start subscribing and will expect more of the same style as you add more. Of course, this doesn't mean you can't grow and change for the better; it just means don't leap from punk one week to preppy the next. (Unless, of course, that really is your channel's idea!)
  7. 7
Use good filming techniques. Natural light is the best lighting you can use when filming for YouTube. Successful YouTubers use studio type lights or white lights, which also give you good lighting. But natural lighting is the best.
    • Backgrounds are also good to have. You don't want a dark and dingy background or a background that blends in with you outfit, you can buy or make backgrounds. To purchase a cheap background, go on eBay or other selling sites to find a great background.
  8. Method 3 of 5: General ideas to increase your channel's success
  1. Start and Maintain a Successful YouTube Career Step 9.jpg
    1
Film with a good quality camera. Webcams are out. The video and audio quality are not very good on webcams, so try to invest in a good video camera. It doesn't have to be a $500 camera, it could cost $20 as long as the quality for audio and visuals are good your video will be good too.
    • Many digital cameras now have excellent video capacity.
    • Look for used options on auction sites if you haven't a lot of money to spare.
  2. Start and Maintain a Successful YouTube Career Step 10.jpg
    2
Record with a high quality screen recorder. This only applies if your video involves you recording your screen. HD video's are the norm nowadays, so make sure it can record at 720p or above.
    • It is best to invest in one rather than download a free one as they often have a "Free Trial" or "Demo" watermark across the screen on export.
    • If your screen recorder does not have options to record audio as well then you need to invest in a good quality microphone - or another screen recorder. One many YouTubers use is the "Blue Snowball" or "Blue Yeti", but any cheap, high quality microphone will do the job.
  3. Start and Maintain a Successful YouTube Career Step 11.jpg
    3
Choose good tags. Choosing tags is a pretty important step to the video upload process, choosing popular tags will make it harder for people to find your video. Choosing unique but accurate tags should bring you more views.
    • Use concise titles, descriptions and tags. YouTube sorts videos out based on the title of the video, the description and then the tags, in that order.
    • Place tags in your description as well as it is more likely that you will get views on your YouTube video.
    • For example: If you were uploading a video about what you thought of Lil Wayne's music career, you wouldn't just put "Lil Wayne" because there would be too many results to sort through. But if you were to put Lil Wayne, Cash Money, Music, Career, and History, you would probably end up with a lot more views; not because there are more tags than just Lil Wayne but because it really narrows the search results down.
  4. Start and Maintain a Successful YouTube Career Step 12.jpg
    4
Try to get lots of subscribers. Having subscribers is one of the most important things to have while on Youtube. When someone subscribes to a channel, they become your fan; this can be very rewarding to some people.
    • To gain subscribers: On every YouTube channel there is a box, called a description box. Many people take this space for granted but anytime someone views your channel they will see what you write there, so you may want to give clues about future videos or tell a little about yourself, if you write some good convincing material this can be a great way to gain subscribers.
    • To keep subscribers: The best way to keep subscribers is to always keep your word. For example, if you say your video will be out on Friday, you make sure you have a video posted by Friday (see the "planning" discussion above). Another way to keep subscribers is to have a steady pace of videos, like one per week, two per week, or whatever it may be; just keep it reliable.
  5. Start and Maintain a Successful YouTube Career Step 13.jpg
    5
Don't spam. People will find you, there is no need to spam. The only thing spamming will do for your YouTube career is ruin your credibility and reputation.
  6. Method 4 of 5: Doing reviews
  7. Start and Maintain a Successful YouTube Career Step 14.jpg
    1
If you want to do reviews on your channel, keep up with the latest version or item that interests you. Don't get too off-topic; this risks becoming it boring and viewers will click out. Keep your video simple.
    • If you want to discuss a longer topic, choose wisely and only talk about the topic. Again try to keep it simple and short.
    • If you really want to go for a long topic, make them into smaller parts and serve them as different videos, such as "Part 1, Part 2" etc. That will make the viewers that enjoyed the first one go for the second one.
    • If you are planning to make parted videos, make a video that act as a hub for viewers, such as having a short video which links to the different parts.
  8. Start and Maintain a Successful YouTube Career Step 15.jpg
    2
Add your own personal touch, don't use the same thing as other YouTubers.
  9. Start and Maintain a Successful YouTube Career Step 16.jpg
    3
Keep your review as non-biased as possible. Have a descriptive opinion on it.
    • Try to compare it to other similar products.
    • Talk about the differences and what you like about it and what you don't.
  10. Start and Maintain a Successful YouTube Career Step 17.jpg
    4
Don't get too excessive with the bad opinions. It may offend some people, so keep it descriptive and stick to the facts.
Method 5 of 5: Have a tough hide

Start and Maintain a Successful YouTube Career Step 18.jpg
1
Gain some confidence. YouTube can be a great place but can also be a very demoralizing and nasty place when the haters get involved. No matter what you do, no matter what you look like, there are people out there who will say negative things to try and make their lackluster little lives more interesting as they hide behind the shield of not being seen. The best thing to do when receiving a nasty comment is to delete their comment, block the commenter and never respond to them. You don't want to give them the satisfaction for being an idiot. Keep your head held high and don't let anybody bring you down.
  • Decide whether you'll even leave a video open to commenting. It's not always the right thing to give people air space to trivialize or downgrade your hard work.
  • Don't take any of the snarly, self-centered comments personally. Some people really get enthused about being creepy and picky online. Don't give them the time of day. Civility is the byword.
  • Whenever anyone starts up on the "freedom of speech" spiel, gently remind them that they're already exercising it. It's become a standard bore to read this baseless whine in nasty criticism.

How to Make a YouTube Poop

A YouTube Poop is a largely popular Internet video category involving the remixing of several clips that adds additional scenes, dialog, or imagery to increase the humor of the video. YouTube Poop can be considered as an art form or a source of comedic relief by some people. Creating a YouTube Poop can be easy with just a bit of practice, but becoming a good "pooper" will take some buckling down and serious effort.  In this article you'll find a list of steps which will teach you how to make one.

Part 1 of 2: Preparing to Be a YouTube "Pooper"

Make a YouTube Poop Step 1 Version 2.jpg
1
Know about the various "poopisms." 'Poopisms' are various common jokes which you may usually find in a YouTube Poop. A good way to find these may be to check what jokes popular "poopers" are using now.
  • Make sure that the Poopers you check are still making videos, because retired Poopers may use jokes that were hilarious in their day, but have now become outdated or clichéd.
  1. Make a YouTube Poop Step 2 Version 2.jpg
    2
Research about the different Poop styles. For example:
    • General Poops - Your normal good YTP will obtain a various amount of methods, jokes, sounds, and visuals to keep the viewer interested. In a good YTP, you may see random chopping, distorting the volume of a clip to be extremely loud, sentence mixing/word splicing, visual jokes, colorful and eye popping video effects, and other things all put together to make an enjoyable or even funny video.
      • These poops have a cult following and are a very controversial subject among the community, and is considered an "either you love it or you don't" thing in YTP.
    • Dinner Spaghetti Poops - The name of this style of Poop derives from originally popular quotes from the sources of the day. This is a style that is accepted only by Internet meme-loving kids, and is not considered funny or original by the actual YTP community other than the ton of mainstream "meme freaks" and sometimes people who have just started watching YouTube Poops. The best thing to do is stay away from these poops and try not to get caught into their style unless you absolutely find it funny, as only a small group of people actually enjoy them. The best way to tell if a YouTube Poop is a Dinner Spaghetti poop is by looking at the title and thumbnail; it may say something like "The King Must Die" or "Mario is Shoop Da Woop" and mostly uses scenes from the CD-i games. Similar poops to this are Dinner Pingas Poops, which will involve something to do with the king and Dr. Robotnik from the older "Sonic" series. These poops should also be avoided if you plan to become well-known.
    • Some Poops usually have extremely loud segments throughout the whole video. Normally, they are abundantly accompanied by random visual effects to keep the video entertaining.
    • Flash Pooping involves special effects made with programs such as Adobe Flash and Sony Vegas Pro. This method of pooping has been long retired and is no longer commonly practiced, though there are a few people who still stick to flash like MeeStarStudios. Flash Pooping used to be hated in the past, but people have widely accepted this style in recent years.
    • Some YouTube Poops are based on RPG fight scenes such as Final Fantasy. These are called YTPRPG's
    • Some YTP's may have a storyline or a strong sense of continuity. Most notably "The King Gets A Car" and "Morshu Gets A Car."
    • YouTube Poop Music Videos, more commonly known as YTPMV's, are another style. It can be a lot of things from a "poop" source character's words edited to sound like an existing song to a source character's words slowed and sped up usually to a basic beat to sound like a rhythm. It is recommended that you gain sufficient experience before attempting one of these, and that you know how to read and obtain sheet music (unless you're doing rap).
  2. Make a YouTube Poop Step 3 Version 2.jpg
    3
Obtain basic video editing software. Windows Movie Maker, a basic video-editing program that comes with recent versions of Windows until Windows 7, should be sufficient; however for many, it is considered extremely hard to work with and slow. Many other poopers have resorted to using Sony Vegas or Adobe Premiere to make their videos. Beware if you try to illegally obtain it as it is very expensive and can result in lawsuits.
  3. Part 2 of 2: Making the Actual YouTube Poop
  4. Make a YouTube Poop Step 4 Version 2.jpg
    1
Select the video(s) that you wish to edit. Some common targets are video game cut-scenes and obscure cartoons from the 1990's. However, almost any source - even a lack of one, in one YouTube Poop's case - can be used. The six things which it is possible to make a YouTube poop from are films, TV shows, online videos, computer games, advertisements and music videos. Children's shows such as "Spongebob" and "Blues Clues" are quite popular.
  5. Make a YouTube Poop Step 5 Version 2.jpg
    2
Download and import the video. Use YouTube video downloading software to obtain the video you wish to edit. The most commonly used is Any Video Converter(AVC).
  6. Make a YouTube Poop Step 6 Version 2.jpg
    3
Split the movie into parts that you want to edit. This is done using the splice tool often found in video editing software, that allows you to create easily manageable parts. Be careful not to make it too small or it may be more unmanageable.
  7. Make a YouTube Poop Step 7 Version 2.jpg
    4
Make your edits. These may include duplicating sections (mostly smaller than half a second and with random pitches on each one), adding flashes of images or text (known as "Subliminals"), splicing character's words to make them say new things that they didn't say before (most commonly used are cuss words and sex jokes, though that is considered overused and continues to drop in popularity), raising the volume of a clip to extremely loud levels, or inserting clips from other videos.
  8. Make a YouTube Poop Step 8 Version 2.jpg
    5
Watch the edited video from start to finish. You need to ensure the video is coherent, plays smoothly, and has no mistakes. During this step, you can also add/change new jokes or elements. Try to go through frame-by-frame and search for errors while you edit if you can.
  9. Make a YouTube Poop Step 9 Version 2.jpg
    6
Save the video in a standard video format, such as WMV, AVI, MOV, and MP4.You can also save it as a project for later editing. To make an even more enjoyable "poop," take the "pooped" video and further "poop" it to make it better. There is a little-known video called "Chain YTP.wmv" that shows a decent example with the whole community taking place, with input from various styles.
  10. Make a YouTube Poop Step 10 Version 2.jpg
    7
Upload the video to YouTube. The common naming scheme is "YouTube Poop:Creative Title." This approach is no longer commonly used by the newer "poopers." A lot of people will leave "YouTube Poop" out of the title to make it shorter, although this makes it harder to find and may inadvertently attract "trolls."
